Comfortable hotel, friendly staff

We regularly spend a week here, when visiting Geneva. The tram is directly outside the hotel, so very convenient for both Geneva and Annemasse.
The hotel is comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Our dog is welcome and parking is free.
Our room at the back of the hotel, is quiet and has recently been refurbished, with a super comfortable bed and a decent shower. Breakfast is varied, including scrambled eggs and bacon, cold meats and cheeses, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, breads and pastries etc
The hotel is on a street that is somewhat run down but the area is friendly enough. with a traditional pizza takeaway that is open every evening, two good bakeries, a pharmacy and a small supermarket, just around the corner.
A short walk away, behind the hotel, is a large park, in a pleasant residential area and a cycle track that goes from Geneva to Annemasse.

Rooms dirty. Carpets in public areas dirty. Bathroom smelt bad before and after use. All in all a very bad stay and probably the most in need of refurb hotel I have stayed in for a very long time.

Very old, decaying hotel

After staying here for 3 nights, I wonder how can a renowned chain like ibis want to put its name on a hotel in such state of decay.
I’ve stayed in many ibis hotels across Europe and this is the first time I’ve had a negative experience.
Although I wouldn’t recommend staying here at all, I wanna start by pointing out the positive things about this hotel.
It is conveniently located right in front of a tram stop, which runs frequently and is very useful if you’re planning to visit Geneva at a more affordable price, compared to Switzerland.
The breakfast buffet was never busy and it featured both savory and sweet options, with fresh French viennoiseries too.
The bed was also comfortable and we slept very well.
Now onto what I didn’t like about this place.
The rooms look nothing like in the pictures, the furnishings are ruined and the interiors are very worn out and tired.
As soon as we checked in, we were assigned a room on the 6th floor but the carpet was totally dirty and there were also stains on the walls.
The window couldn’t close properly and we could hear the noise of the trams passing by, despite being on the top floor.
The girl at the reception was happy to assign us another room on the 4th floor, which had a renovated carpet, but same old furniture.
The toilet was renovated but smelled of mold.
I can’t say that we had the same attention when it comes to customer service the next few days, because the staff at the reception was indifferent, sometimes never even said hello when entering the hall, other times they weren’t even at the desk reception at all.
The second room we got assigned also had a major problem with the windows, as they were too old and rain water was leaking in all the time, leaving stains and mold on the walls, which is not good for the health.
Overall I think that this place desperately needs some renovations, as it is strategically located close to the Swiss border and in front of a tram stop.

Disappointing stay. The Wi-Fi in room 401 was non-existent. The reception’s excuse was that the 'exterior renovation' was affecting the signal—a creative, albeit scientifically impossible, explanation. It’s a shame the staff prefers making up fairy tales about how scaffolding blocks the internet instead of actually fixing the problem. If you need to get any work done, look elsewhere; they clearly think their guests lack basic common sense.
