Rating: ★★☆☆☆
While Hotel El Conquistador occupies a prime location in the heart of Cuenca, my recent stay was significantly marred by critical infrastructure failures.
The primary issue involved the hotel’s electrical supply system, which was not properly maintained. During my stay, the power supply was inconsistent and unreliable, causing a major disruption to my comfort and ability to use the room’s amenities. For a hotel of this standing, a stable power grid and functioning backup systems are fundamental expectations that were unfortunately not met.
When I brought these concerns to the management's attention, the resolution offered was underwhelming. Rather than addressing the root cause of the maintenance failure or providing a practical solution for the lack of power, I was only offered a room upgrade. While I appreciate the gesture, an upgrade is of little value when the building’s underlying electrical issues persist regardless of the room tier.
Pros:
• Excellent location near the city center.
• Professional staff interactions.
Cons:
• Poorly maintained electrical infrastructure.
• Inadequate compensation/resolution for utility failures.
Verdict: I cannot recommend this hotel until they undergo a significant overhaul of their electrical systems. Travelers relying on consistent power for work or personal devices should look elsewhere.

Dismal Customer Service and Pointless Cancellation
The hotel contacted me via WhatsApp to cancel the reservation, however the website I used to make the reservation did not show the cancellation. The explanation they gave me impersonally was that they were oversold. On the site I used to make the reservation, they had no such news and it was my turn to spend money on roaming calls to understand what was happening and look for the solution. It was all in vain, and now I have a huge roaming account
If a hotel does that kind of thing it is clearly a low-end hotel that claims to be respectable. As a tourist, this experience is daunting. I suggest you avoid this hotel at all costs!
