Excellent Conference Experience at UBC Okanagan

Our Association recently held a conference at UBC Okanagan, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish.
The campus is lovely and well maintained, creating a welcoming environment. It was held in early July, with students not in session this made for a quieter campus.
The conference facilities were comfortable, clean, and well equipped with a seamless AV system. The campus is easy to navigate, with plenty of parking and onsite accommodations, making it convenient for out-of-town attendees.
The staff were friendly, professional, and as the Event Coordinator, I appreciated the smooth planning of our conference with the Conference Manager and their team.
We would welcome the opportunity to plan future events here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a professional, well-organized conference location in the Okanagan.

Hospitality at its Worst!

Stayed here last week and I honestly wish I had not for several different reasons which I will detail below.
Parking is miles away from the building, you have to go back out on to the highway to get to where u need to go to park.
The next reason is the biggest reason I wouldn't return, the staff there are zero help and come across as very passive aggressive and sarcastic at times. It was the weekend when I stayed and I asked the guy at the reception if there was anywhere in the campus I could get a bite to eat, in my experience the hotel staff are the best people to get recommendations from.
This guy had zero interest in being helpful or personable at all, he just pointed at a poster across the hallway and said "theres a list of all our options on the wall over there."
So I thought ok, a bit rude. I went and had a look, I saw there's a Time Horton and asked him if the Time Horton's was walking distance because I had a small kid. Rather than tell me he pointed to the other end of the corridor and said theres a map over there.
This is the hospitality industry we are talking about, why can't he give me a human reply and say "oh yeah it's a 2 minute walk, just outside and turn left."
What kind of training are these guys getting? It's like talking to robots.
Anyway we find Tim Hortons on the map and walk there, it's closed. I see a security guard and ask him if there's any other place we can get a cup of coffee or a sandwich. He informs me that in summer season all the coffee shops and restaurants are closed at the weekends. They don't open at all.
So why didn't the guy at reception just tell me that rather than waste my time.
I go back to reception and look at the poster waiting to see if he's gonna offer some help, no. He's too busy texting. So I say to him, "So all these places are closed at the weekends? Why didn't you just tell me that?"
He says he didn't know that they are closed. Are you for real? You work at the reception and you are unaware that everything is closed? Never tried to get a coffee on your lunch break? He 100% knew but he was too busy doing nothing to do his job and be hospitable.
We checked in and in one of the rooms the AC is not working, we call to inform them. It's 33° and we are on the 4th floor.
No apology for the inconvenience, or offer to move to a different room. They offered us a fan that we would have to go pick up ourselves from reception.
Hospitality at its finest.
The 4th floor was also extremely loud with a football team running riot down the halls at 11pm. Called reception to report it, they say they will send security to quieten them down. Whether they did or not I do not know, either way the ruckus continued for another 40 minutes.
Never again would I stay here, it's cheap yes but even if it was free I wouldn't return. UBC need to retrain all their staff and reach them what is and isn't acceptable behaviour for hosts because they don't tick a single positive box. They tick pretty much all the negative boxes.
I contacted them prior to posting this review and the reply I got was they would give me a $40 partial refund for the 5 night stay there. I told them to keep it.
I advise anyone considering booking here to avoid it at all costs, cheaper isnt always better. These people do not deserve the business until the staff are trained properly in hospitality.

Another wonderful stay on campus!

We were fortunate to stay in the newest residence called Nechako.
Clean & bright with great security. The students that serve guests are fantastic & helpful. The parking is free but the round a-bouts and signage make for easy disorientation. On one occasion, Mina had to accompany us back to our parking lot because the labyrinth of streets had us flabbergasted! Our room was more than adequate. We initially thought that the bed was too small but we were mistaken. The wifi was strong, we had a beautiful view, comfortable A/C & an ample sized bathroom . Since the University is near the airport , one can hear planes taking off & landing, with the window open. But it isn’t incessant. We were absolutely delighted with our stay on campus! We will continue to stay here whenever we visit Kelowna!
