Basic hotel in fantastic location

The hotel SAMOKOV is basically in regards to the rooms but they are clean and warm.
Bathroom is designed as a wet room the water will drain away!
Lobby Bar cheapest drinks in town
Location great right near gondola and short walk to nursery slopes and 6 nan lift on rila its not ski to door but if u want that u need pay more!
Swimming Pool free to guests was actually warmer than it was when we stayed years ago though you do have to pay for sauna and steam as they are a run by the Spa.
There is lots facilities pool tables above bowling alley, though the usual table tennis was closed due to a conference
FOOD
breakfast more than adequate fruit cereals yoghurt pastries breads eggs boiled and scrambled and bacon was ok
Dinner if half board was also adequate if not fancy but you could go out for meal in many of the local restaurants
Overall a decent skiing hotel staff ok
One day we didn't get room cleaning service but I asked at reception and they quickly delivered fresh towels and toilet rolls.
Can't complain for the price we paid
Borovets is a great ski destination for beginners and intermediates good value resort our 16th visit well be back in 2027 and if the SAMOKOV is a decent price I'd chose it again! X

Review of Samokov Hotel in Borovets

The location of the hotel was good and it was more affordable. We had a nice view out of our window. However, it is very outdated and needs some serious maintenance. The outside is visibly shabby with paintwork and wood needing replacement. The rooms are old with the toilet being separate from the rest of the bathroom, which is inconvenient and the bath could have been more clean. The shower head came off the wall, which was not ideal and the beds were not the most comfortable. The hotel was quiet, but felt weirdly empty. One morning we were the only people at breakfast, which felt a bit strange. The food at breakfast was relatively poor, the French toast and bacon were very greasy and hard to eat plus the food selection was somewhat limited. Some of the staff were helpful, especially at check-in, however, checking out the staff were slightly rude. The reception and lobby felt outdated, but there is a good selection of facilities. It would have been nice to get some free tea bags in the rooms or other amenities. Overall, a cheaper, well-located stay, but needs maintenance and various other improvements.

Samakov borovets better than you think

The Samokov may hail from a different era but rooms are clean and very spacious great for the kids to hang out, much better than some of the neighbouring hotels. Rooms are clean, warm and have what you need. Bedding was clean and comfortable. Issue with hot water coming from cold faucet but abundant hot water food is typical of the area and overall to a good standard for the area. Staff are friendly and very accommodating. Ski centre very good value and service and good standard of equipment and service
Don’t be surprised to experience a far better service than reviews suggest
Bulgaria is a wonderful country with very nice people at a price point which suits a lot of families (5 of us) and keep coming back
If you want really high standards for cuisine and over priced services then try somewhere else
Borovets is a gem

Hotel requires renovation and cleanliness improvement.

I was quite disappointed overall with my stay at this hotel. The entire place felt very dated, with tired décor and facilities that clearly haven’t been updated in years. Cleanliness was also a concern — the bedsheets were never changed during my stay, which is completely unacceptable and unhygienic.
The food was poor quality, with limited options and very little variation. It certainly did not meet expectations. You also do not receive drinks with your evening meal, which was frustrating. In fact, almost everything in this hotel comes at an extra cost — you seem to have to pay extra for just about everything. You even have to pay €10 per person, per day to use the sauna, which I think is completely unacceptable.
The lifts were unreliable and slow, which made getting around the hotel difficult, especially at busy times.
There were, however, a few positives. The hotel is in a great location and very close to the slopes, which is ideal for skiing. The drinks at the bar are reasonably priced compared to other nearby venues. The swimming pool was very warm, which was enjoyable after a day on the slopes, and we did receive fresh towels every other day, which was appreciated.
Unfortunately, the positives do not outweigh the negatives. The hotel needs significant improvements in cleanliness, food quality, and overall maintenance before I would return

Lockers Rip Off - Avoid

Do not rent lockers here. I paid for six days but the first day the office was closed and could only leave things in the evening. I was then told that six days is FIVE nights and lockers need to be empty BY midday, which meant having to waste half of the day skiing. Everywhere else days start at 7am and finish around 7.30pm. But everything here is designed to extract as much cash as possible from travellers. The attitude is always dreadful and I am afraid everything now is expensive and the service terrible. It leaves a sour taste and spoils the day and even the holiday. Won’t see me again. Bye.

Very good location
