Amazing Solo Trip
Staying at Gaia is truly a breathtaking experience. The property is gorgeously maintained & the staff go above & beyond to make you feel at home. Rahim made me laugh many nights at the bar & always had the perfect cocktail suggestions. Javier greeted me in the mornings with the perfect cappuccino & a smile. Even though I was traveling alone there was always someone there for me. I cannot wait to visit again.

August at Gaia Riverlodge
We stayed at Gaia Riverlodge in August of 2026. The location is beautiful, with cabanas sitting on a cliff overlooking a river and the 5 sisters waterfall. The lodge sits at the intersection of the mountain pine forest and the rain forest, providing two environments to explore. There is an excellent hike through the rain forest, which the lodge dog Coco decided to take with us. We found a small waterfall area and spotted some interesting birds on this hike. One of us had a massage down by the river and it was excellent. The staff is uniformly cheerful and friendly and they go to the trouble to remember your name. Because we really enjoy birding, they gave us a free 1 hr guided bird walk with the local naturalist. The rooms are not air conditioned but the fan and open screened windows helped with air flow. Downsides were that there really is no biking as the bike ride to the Big Rock Falls is all uphill and when we asked about other trails, they said there were none. We noticed that the deck railings were not well-constructed with vertical cross bars no longer secured to the horizontal bars; there are warning signs about leaning on the railings. We were both under the weather for a night and a day mid-stay and appreciated that the pedialyte was provided for free as the two pieces of toast we asked for during recovery were billed at $10 US. Food was generally expensive except for the continental breakfasts which were included in the rate and very good. I think we booked too long a stay (6 nights) and a 3 day stay would be sufficient.

Sumptuous
This was an amazing experience, everything their website describes. We especially loved the private swimming hole and waterfall at the bottom of the ravine. If you don't feel like walking up or down, you can request the funicular.
The staff gave us a very warm, personalized welcome throughout our stay, and even decorated our room for our daughter's birthday! They also provided me with gift wrapping paper.
The rolling grounds are lush and beautiful, and you can pick vegetables and gather eggs for your breakfast at their organic farm. There's a nature trail, but it is not particularly scenic.
The room was a study in elegant understatement, with tropical wood finishes and a large, breezy window overlooking the plunging ravine. There was always enough of a breeze that we didn't need the extra fan provided.
The restaurant serves top quality farm-to-fork meals. However, and this is my one gripe, the prices are a gouge. If you don't have your own wheels, you're stuck paying for it, as there are no other options within a 20km radius, as far as we could tell. I suppose that if being forced to eat overpriced fancy meals every day for four days is the worst problem we've ever had, we can consider ourselves to be most fortunate. Still, they could have at least offered a free bread basket for breakfast as a gesture.
The service was both refined and relaxed across the board.
I did the Caracol and Rio tour which was fun and fascinating. Now that the road has been upgraded, anyone can go with their own vehicle.

A Slice of Jungle Paradise – Gaia River Lodge Exceeded Every Expectation
I recently stayed at Gaia River Lodge in Mountain Pine Ridge, and it was nothing short of amazing from start to finish. We were greeted with refreshing cool towels and a welcome drink, a perfect touch right from our arrival.
The setting alone is worth the trip. The lodge is tucked in the jungle and sits at the edge of a mountain overlooking the Pine Ridge, with natural waterfalls right below on the property. We hiked down to the falls and back up, and I loved that they also have a trolley for anyone who'd rather skip the stairs. Our cabin looked right out over the falls and the edge of the ridge, so it genuinely felt like sleeping in nature. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waterfall was such a beautiful, peaceful experience.
The rooms were spotless and thoughtfully done, right down to the creative art laid out on the bed when we arrived- such a sweet welcome touch.
Service across the board was excellent. Every staff member made us feel genuinely welcome, and the bartenders and servers like Javier were attentive without ever being intrusive. And the food- every single meal was delicious. We had tacos for lunch, and they were even able to serve them at the river below. It's clear the kitchen takes real care in what they serve.
Chris, the after-dinner entertainer, was a highlight. We had a great time with his magic tricks.
If you're looking for a jungle escape that combines adventure, comfort, and top-notch hospitality, Gaia River Lodge delivers on every level. We can't wait to go back!
