A special hidden gem!

Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough. We stayed as a large family group- all the rooms were lovely and clean and quirky. The highlight was the lovely terrace and being able to feed the deer. The food was wonderful and Freddy couldn’t be a better host. We will definitely return. Such a lovely place

Hospitality good but quality of rooms and breakfast poor

We only stayed here for one night, and although the hosts are very welcoming the quality of our room was very poor, there was mold on the bathroom ceiling and that can not be accepted if you pay 75 euro for a room. Also when we left the host ran to our car because he found an empty beer bottle in our room of he said it was taken from his bar but that was not the case, as we were the only people in the B&B we found this very unfair. The breakfast was ok, but nothing more, the coffee was no good we asked for some eggs and the owners called the neighbor to bring some, so they do their best but we will not stay here again or recommend this place. It's a pity we were all ok with this but when the host wanted us to pay for that bottle of beer these left us with a bad feeling !

Well located, warm and faultless.

My family (wife + 13yo son) stayed for 5 nights around the Tour of Flanders (Ronde). Freddie is a great host, very engaging, helpful and personable, and Kader is also very friendly and takes great pride in producing lovely meals of an evening. St Blasius Boekel is a quiet village convenient to Oudenaarde and well located with regards Ghent, Brussels & Brugge. The lodgings are well maintained, clean and quite characterful in their own right. Perfect stay really.

Hospitality- with a capital H

We were delayed so didnt get to spend time in Gent as we planned and hadn't booked a meal as requested. Freddy and Kader, together with the locals in the bar made us feel very welcome.They were busy with a function but offered to prepare us a meal if we werent in a hurry and prepared to take pot luck. The choice of beverages was good and not unreasonably priced and we were delighted with the tomato salad and superb chicken tagine which arrived an hour or so later. All the rooms are individually themed and accessorised - we were in Rome - and beautifully co-ordinated in a boutique style, not large but cosy with the heat on for the chilly evening and plenty of hot water. Wifi is available in the public areas but not the bedrooms, dont know about outside. There isnt a TV so don't look for one! Breakfast was very good and well replenished. Its a very individual place with very individual hosts. Niggles - and they are minor - the only parking is on the road side and it isnt the easiest palce to find, the picture is the inside courtyard so we didnt know what to look for and satnav send us miles away - its 2km outside Zwalm - use the N60, sign to Zwalm bring you down the right road. Its an area of Belgium we've never visited before and appears to have lots to see -the lodge is nearish (an hour or so) to Dunkirk ferry and would make a great short break to explore - cycling is very big around there.

Johans lodge

We spent a week here as we toured on our motorcycle round Belgium,Freddie the owner could not have been a better host and nothing seemed to much trouble, it was only just over 1 hour from zebbruger ferry and it's set in a nice quite village.
