top weekend
that remains an icon! the renovation of the stables is top! the beds are very good in the hotel.... very good extensive breakfast buffet with cava, in short, worth repeating!

I think hotels com had booked us into an upgraded room but the staff queried this and asked us to pay for the upgrade. We stuck with a classic room which was unfortunately very noisy and over looked the carpark rather than the beach.
It's a wonderful area and plenty of other places to stay nearby!

Very disappointing
Enchanted arrival: parking, very beautiful exterior and interior architecture, we open the room door and wow, terrace with a magnificent view of the beach.
And then the stained carpet, the scratched and peeling furniture, the questionable cleanliness of the bathroom, the discomfort of the bathtub, the bath products that do not match the site's description, ordinary and more than minimalist for a "palace," the absence of slippers mentioned on the site, and the lack of friendliness from the young woman at the reception when we informed her (in French then in English) of the discrepancies between what is sold on the site and reality... jump out at us. Okay, let's make the best of a bad situation and enjoy the terrace: oh no, one of the wheels of the sun lounger comes off due to a missing bolt!
For smokers tempted by a room with a terrace at a high price: smoking is prohibited on the terrace.
On the other hand: satisfactory breakfast, in a very elegant setting facing the sea.
The impression that everything is focused on very beautiful architecture but the service promises do not follow. Frankly not up to par and certainly not worth the price.
I had stayed there a few years ago when the establishment reopened and we had already noted the gap between the condition of the rooms and the beauty of the building.

Expected more
This will be a mixed review.
But in general I cannot agree with the Thermae Palace Hotel being a 4 star hotel sadly.
The location is very good but parking is limited and the parkinglots need work (not enough space, uneven and a lot of weeds).
The hotel itself is on the beachfront (on the sea dike) which is very nice though.
The main entrance to the side is somewhat strangely orientated and small.
From the 4 persons at reception I interacted with, 3 were very polite and helpful.
One however seemed to be working against her will and quite ‘short’ in her responses. Not very friendly.
Extra costs should be more clearly posted (like for the sauna – which was ok).
The building in general:
It is itself very impressive though in bitter need of more tender love and care.
On the outside the influence of the sea is clearly visible with cracking plaster & paint, rotting wood, rust… (espec. When viewed from the balconies).
Internally a lot of the original features have been kept (which is good) but sadly little effort has gone into restoring of maintaining them. A lot of the wooden features have been covered in several layers of paint (and not by professionals), hinges, and other features covered. Staircase banisters/railings have been losing their chrome finish, the small elevators need a bit of work aswell.
Walls and ceilings covered (disguised) with cheap wide wallpaper.
Carpets on the levels are also very rough and unsuited for the building.
The room:
The rooms was a good size, private and very quiet.
The bed orientation was badly chosen though at a 90° to the window. When picking a room with seaside view one should be able to see the sea laying in bed.
The matrasses and pillows were of a very good quality, as were the sheets.
The bed (cleary a double room) was just 2 loose beds shoved together with no means of keeping them together. (You fall in between the matrasses while sleeping.)
Some of the furniture was slightly damaged and spots on the walls visible. Maintenance and care again could be better.
A minibar was present but empty.
No air-conditioning available, but at least the seaside window could be openend.
The bathroom:
Needs urgent work.
Besides the sink little original remained and a 80’s (?) remodel was unsuccesfull.
Grouting in floor and walls needs cleaning and redoing, rust stains around the bath on several spots, minimal and bad lighting, no forced (adequate) ventilation in bathroom or toilet. The ceiling was a 80’s plastic and insulation latticework with holes in it. In the toilet you could even see the original ceiling through it.
There were some nice toiletries available for free but no bodywash.
Housekeeping:
We stayed for one night only so have no idea about the service in bathtowels, vacuuming… .
We however found a lot of dust remaining on dooredges, skirting boards…
Breakfast:
The young people who were in charge of breakfastroom (students mostly) did their best.
There was ample food and options available. Though the breakfastroom did not feel like one from a 4 star hotel.
The Sauna:
Adequate and clean (extra €30)
But nice to be able to reserve it (even for private session).
The Gym:
Limited but ok and free.
It Is a fine enough hotel but not a 4 star and not for the price of €335.

More customer focus expected from a four-star hotel
Disappointing experience with the follow-up of a reservation that was intended as a surprise for my mom's 70th birthday.
An original card payment was not processed correctly. That can happen and was not the problem in itself. What was particularly disappointing was the follow-up afterwards. I have contacted the hotel proactively several times and clearly explained each time that it was essential that my mother would not have to pay for her surprise stay upon arrival.
Despite various telephone and written contacts and my attempts to pay the outstanding amount in advance, ultimately exactly that happened: upon arrival, she had to pay for the stay herself.
The hotel later acknowledged that the communication should have been clearer and the approach more solution-oriented and has apologized for this. I appreciate that. Given the occasion, the different points of contact, and the efforts I myself had put in, I expected more ownership and customer focus from a four-star hotel.
