A special mention has to go to Djo, who was absolutely superb. From the moment I arrived, he was incredibly helpful and attentive. He kindly carried my suitcase to and from the taxi and went above and beyond to make sure I was looked after. When I arrived, reception was rather slow as they were training another member of staff, but Djo noticed this and made sure the reception team tended to me promptly. His attentiveness and willingness to help genuinely made a difference to my experience.
There were a couple of small areas that could be improved. Unfortunately, the mini fridge in my room wasn’t stocked, and I was only provided with one bottle of water. Given the standard of the hotel, I would have expected the fridge to be stocked or, at the very least, a little more complimentary water to be provided.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. The hotel is beautiful, modern and comfortable, the location is excellent, and the service from Djo was a particular highlight. He is a real asset to the hotel and deserves recognition for the way he looked after me.

Sloppy service from start to finish — this property should not be part of Hyatt
At check-in, the front desk agent specifically told us we had been upgraded to a suite. When we arrived at the room, however, it was simply a 1 King Premium room, not a suite. It also had an unrequested rollaway bed already set up, and there was an opened bottle of water from the previous guest still sitting in the minibar/fridge.
We returned to the front desk and asked to change rooms. We were initially told that there were no other rooms available, but after pushing, another 1 King Premium room was suddenly found. When I pointed out that we had explicitly been told we were receiving a suite, there was essentially no acknowledgment or explanation — despite the hotel still showing suite categories available for sale.
We then entered the replacement room and, bizarrely, it also had an unrequested rollaway bed set up. The toilet paper holder was completely empty as well, although fortunately there was a spare roll under the sink.
None of these issues individually would have ruined a stay, but together they showed a remarkable lack of attention to detail and poor communication between departments.
What made the experience substantially worse was the complete lack of follow-up afterward. I emailed the hotel’s General Manager detailing the problems and received no response at all. Management appears to be asleep at the wheel.
Even the World of Hyatt credit and points for the stay failed to post correctly, forcing me to escalate the issue separately with Hyatt. At that point, this stopped feeling like a collection of isolated mistakes and started looking like a property that simply is not being operated to the standard Hyatt guests should reasonably expect.
Hotels make mistakes. What matters is whether anyone takes ownership and fixes them. Here, the problems started at check-in, continued through two poorly prepared rooms, carried over into the administration of the stay afterward, and were met with complete silence from management.
Based on this experience, I genuinely question why The Standard Brussels remains affiliated with World of Hyatt. Hyatt should seriously reconsider this property's participation in the program. The service, operational standards, management response, and handling of loyalty benefits were all well below what I expect from a Hyatt-affiliated hotel.
I would not stay here again, and frankly, I think Hyatt would be better off removing this property from its portfolio unless there is a significant change in management and operating standards.
