What a place to experience this paradise
I stayed in the Pension in Hallstatt for 5 nights at the end of September 2025. I did a lot of research before I selected this lodging & it made all the difference. The owner Isabelle was amazing, she is one of the kindest people I met. I felt like I was among family, Isabelle helped me with everything I needed & more, communication was excellent, there is a dining area where you can get hot water any time of the day, use plates & cups, & there is a fridge for the customers. You can use the area but not necessarily during breakfast. The location of the Pension was great, it was just away from the tourist area which is buzzing like a beehive. Yet a walk across the entire village is about 20 minutes.
The room & bed are comfortable, and as you see in the pictures, you are on the lake, what an experience.
Best place for breakfast is Seacafe at the end of the village, very small indoor space, so you better line up before 9.
The Saltmine is closed for renovation. I have been to a Glacier experience in Chamonix/France so I skipped it here, 3 full days is probably nice to be here. Take the ferry & do the hike on the left, it is beautiful & relatively flat. Ask Isabelle about it & other hikes, she will show you & give you maps.
Hallstat is an absolute beauty, most people make the mistake of making it a day trip, I think you discover the magic when you stay over, especially in this Penison.

Great traditional pension
Lovely traditional hotel directly on Hallstatt lake. Lovely helpful couple run this pension. It is just past the photo place where tourists gather. We had a room with balcony overlooking the lake with fabulous views. This is a much quieter part of town.
We took breakfast each day of coffee, tea or chocolate with bread, jams and a boiled egg. Much better value than eating in the town. Perfect boiled eggs!
Yes the facilities are traditional but the location and owners are fabulous. There are sunbeds next to the lake on a private garden area.
On booking the owners were very helpful with arranging parking and a shuttle from the parking to the hotel.

Unbeatable value for money.
Everything was perfect. Very welcoming hosts. In the center but away from the hustle and bustle of tourists. Very calm. Splendid view of lake and mountain. Direct access to the lake. Unbeatable value for money.

Great days in Hallstat
Haus Sartein is located right near the Hallsater See with a lovely small green beach here.
The family that have this nice pension are wonderful and very helpful.
Rooms are very clean and the view from the balcony was amazing -moutains & lake view.
I would recvomand from all my heart this accomodation.

The perfect place to stay in Hallstatt
We stayed in the apartment on the top floor of Pension Sarstein and really couldn’t fault it. The apartment was cosy and extremely clean. It had everything we needed for a great stay. We chose the apartment option as it allowed us to save money by cooking our own meals. The balcony view of the lake and mountains was incredible with a lovely little table and chairs, enabling us to create our own little private lakeside restaurant every evening. This hotel is in an ideal location, about a 10/15 minute walk through the beautiful streets of central Hallstatt to the main Hallstatt Lahn bus station or local supermarket. The hotel is also situated right next to the lake, complete with it’s own diving boards and garden area where you can paddle your feet. The hosts were very helpful and friendly. They gave us information about the local area and allowed us to hire a couple of bikes completely free of charge. We thought this hotel was great value for money and a perfect choice for anyone planning a visit to Hallstatt.
