Coogee icon in disrepair

Appalling, it saddens me to see this unique Coogee hotel fall into a shadow of its former self, I can guess why.
I first visited 20 odd years ago and it looked so sharp on the exterior.
But now as soon as you arrive, it’s obvious it’s not seen a paint brush since those days.
Once inside, the same story.. grubby to say the least. And I’ll start with my almost unbelievable complaint, what business in their right minds would not have a fitted duvet cover over the duvet inner?? Disgusting to say the least, and putting a flat sheet under and over the inner, that obviously separates during the night, does not constitute a cover!
What else ….. one tea bag for a 5 night stay, one out of two bed side lamps working, lightbulb missing from chandelier, wash basin tap handle comes off in your hand. Room desperately in need of a repaint. I think I’ve stayed 4 times over the years, this being my last. Turning into a backpackers!

Worst 5 minutes of my life.

We only stayed about 5 minutes having dragged our suitcases up about 20 concrete steps. There was scaffolding all around it. The smell in the hall was just awful, like a mix of urine and cleaning fluid. When we got our room I honestly couldn't believe the smell. The head board behind the pillows was badly stained, there was a tiny window and I was honestly struggling to breath with the smell of mould. Got on to my phone and lucky we were able to book a much better place near by. This property should not be given 4 stars. In fact it should probably be closed down. Place is disgusting. Not sure why it is given such a good rating. I don't mind things being basic but cleanliness is essential. Vile

Had room 1 right at the front of the propert that had a great little verandah. Room was generously sized and comfortable for a beachside break
