Chaotic billing and poor management

We were travelling with two young kids and stayed for 3 nights. We booked the room through agoda with breakfast included for the first two nights. When we checked out on the last day early morning 5:30am, we were assured that no fee need to be charged from our card.
Then we received email charging AUD 60 and AUD 66 from our card, and on enquiry, they first replied it is breakfast charge for the last day(but we actually checked out early morning before the restaurant even open), then we emailed again and got the reply that it was charged for the kids breakfast (we were told at the restaurant that we can order one kid waffle/ pancake for each kid and it is included in our room, but on the second day we didn’t want to waste as the kids eat so little so we only ordered one kid pancake for them to share).
It looks like they just replied randomly creating some reasons so that we won’t ask again instead of really looking into the bill and tell us why the charge was deducted. I never experienced such confusing billing in any hotel before and I can’t imagine this happens in such an international branded ‘5 star’ hotel, I am still waiting for their reply on the detailed breakdown on the bill which I doubt if they will just randomly reply something to confuse us.
電郵中隨便回覆,沒有效率,混亂的收費,浪費了我很多時間,也令我們感到非常困擾,從來未試過住宿一間酒店被扣款,解釋不到也沒有詳細收據

Dear Wai,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry to learn about the confusion and frustration caused by the charges on your account and the subsequent communication regarding your stay.
Providing clear and accurate information to our guests is extremely important to us, and we sincerely apologize that this was not your experience. We understand how concerning it must be to receive charges after departure without a clear explanation, particularly after being advised at check-out that no further charges would apply.
To allow us to thoroughly investigate this matter and provide you with a detailed explanation, please contact us at Perha.dutymanager@ihg.com with your booking details, including your reservation number and the name on the booking. Our team will carefully review the charges, verify the billing details, and respond to you as soon as possible.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and the time spent seeking clarification. We appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention and hope to have the opportunity to restore your confidence in us.
Warm regards,

Comfortable & Special..

Beautiful hotel in the center of shopping & transport to Fremantle. Hotel accommodate really well but its the staff from the point of entry, to concierge and room service to the door person and the restaurant ( who make beautiful meals & coffee) You all made it special! A personal thank you from both my husband & myself, from our 20th anniversary stay!

Luxury branding, but disappointing service when it mattered most

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after reading the hotel’s formal investigation into my complaint, I feel compelled to share my experience so that other guests can make an informed decision.
My husband developed a significant allergic reaction during our stay. We were extremely concerned because the reaction occurred while we were in the room, which we found to be visibly dusty and were concerned may also have had mould. His symptoms became serious enough that we sought medical attention. Importantly, after we left the hotel environment, his condition improved significantly, and he had recovered by the night we moved to another hotel.
When we first raised our concerns with reception, we were hoping for empathy and a genuine investigation into whether there was something in the room that could have contributed to his illness.
Instead, our experience was very different.
The hotel’s formal response states that staff “responded to your concerns promptly and explored a number of options to assist, including discussing a room relocation, offering an alternative room type, and personally attending the room to better understand the situation.”
That is not how we experienced the interaction.
The discussion about another room was immediately accompanied by comments that it would essentially be “the same” and would not help. There was no meaningful investigation of the room itself, no attempt to identify possible environmental issues, and no effort to understand what might have been triggering my husband’s symptoms. When staff attended our room, I did not experience this as an investigation. Instead, I felt the focus was on us leaving rather than resolving the problem.
The investigation letter also states that the Duty Manager “offered to refund the 2 nights of your stay as a gesture of goodwill.” By that stage, we were leaving because we no longer felt comfortable remaining in the room while my husband was unwell. Refunding unused nights should not be portrayed as resolving the underlying issue.
The letter further concludes that the team “acted appropriately and in good faith” and that the investigation “does not support that the hotel was responsible or didn’t offer solutions.”
I respect that hotels may reach conclusions different from their guests. However, I was deeply disappointed that the investigation relied on staff accounts that did not reflect my experience. At no point did I feel there was a genuine attempt to investigate the room or acknowledge that the hotel’s response could have been handled better.
My greatest disappointment is no longer about compensation. It is about accountability.
When a guest reports a serious health concern, I believe they deserve a thorough investigation, open communication, and an objective review of what occurred. Instead, I was left feeling that my family’s experience had been dismissed and that the written response did not fairly represent what happened.

Dear Jamie,
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your visit did not meet your expectations.
After reviewing the details of your visit with our team, we understand that your party arrived towards the end of our breakfast service and ordered from the à la carte menu. During your meal, an additional order was placed, which was prepared and served separately. As this order was made after the initial meals had been served, it arrived later than the rest of the table's food.
We also understand that our team checked in regarding the additional order during your visit. That said, we're disappointed to hear that you felt the service was rude or dismissive, as this is certainly not the standard we aim to provide. We take all guest feedback seriously and will share your comments with the team for review.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback and wish you all the best.
Warm regards,
InterContinental Perth City Centre
