So-so.
Our room was passable but we heard every word of our loud neighbour through the thin connecting door, and every move of someone else upstairs. Bed was sagged in the middle and no extra pillows were available either.
Bedside tables were absent and there was only harsh fluoro lighting. And the kettle wouldn’t fit under the sink spout to fill it. Not going back there.

“Emerald Central Hotel: A Thrilling Overnight Adventure in Hygiene and Hazard!”
Let’s start with ambiance. Imagine descending a staircase shrouded in darkness, the light as elusive as a flashlight with dying batteries. I half-expected a bat to swoop down, but thankfully I was only greeted by the feeling of possible ankle-twisting as I navigated my way up to my room.
Once inside, I found that I’d actually booked a “surround sound” suite! The walls, seemingly made from crepe paper, transmitted every sound from the next room: a TV blaring and a symphony of snores. Ah, nothing like the familiar lullaby of a stranger’s nasal concerto to lull you to sleep.
Speaking of sleep, the mattress was a revelation. Equipped with its own alarm system—sharp springs poking me in the back with every movement—it ensured that sleep was not part of my night. If you ever want to experience what it’s like to lie on a trampoline of barbed wire, this is the place!
Next came the bathroom, a true work of horror. The pièce de résistance was a used, blood-stained bandage in the corner of the shower, accompanied by enough spider webs on the ceiling to host a Halloween party. It really gives you that “forgotten crime scene” feel that you just don’t get at chain hotels.
And let’s not forget the dust-coated appliances. The air conditioner, heater, and bathroom fan had achieved a patina so thick it looked like the place had been closed for centuries. This delightful layer of fluff ensured that every gust of air was tinged with an extra dash of mystery dust. In case the mattress hadn’t convinced me, this was my sign to avoid taking deep breaths.
For the grand finale, the bathroom floor offered an inexplicable splash of what I can only describe as “mystery fluid,” strategically positioned across from the toilet to add just the right amount of existential dread.
So, if you’re looking for a place that combines health risks with a sense of danger and discovery, Emerald Central Hotel is your place. For everyone else, consider investing in a hazmat suit or, better yet, a different hotel.

For one night, it was fine, and not overpriced. However, it is an old motel and in dire need of renovation. The exterior and gardens also require some TLC also and none of the photos actually reflect the true appearance of the motel.
The bed was comfy and the air conditioner worked a treat.
We received good communication from the staff prior to our stay with accurate instructions detailing the check in process.
