The noisiest hotel ever!
Over our 14 nights staying we observed alot of workers and military people also stay here. The noise is constant throughout every morning & night. We were woken every night and early morning at different times from people coming & going and slamming doors! We believe it was a mixture of guests and staff. We were both sick while we were here so trying to rest in between our tours but this was almost impossible to do until after lunchtime when all the movement seemed to have slowed down a little, until the afternoon cleaners came onto the floor. A peaceful rest was pretty much non existent.
If management are reading this and wondering what the heck I'm going on about I urge you to stay in a room for a night unannounced and experience it for yourselves.
- We stayed 14 nights. It was going to cost us $5,000+AUD which is insane, we could go overseas & stay cheaper!. So we used points 364,000. We checked dynamic pricing several times before we arrived and the points went upto 544,000. Ridiculous, we are not on the grand canal in Italy!
We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant five spice. The staff were friendly and the food ok. Take away coffee was ok.
PROS;
- The lovely Diana checked us in, she was great and so helpful throughoutour stay. Thank you Diana for your welcoming smile and always being of assistance.
- We are Titanium elite we were advised upon checkin we received a room upgrade, not sure the difference to what we booked other than our bed was downgraded to a queen bed from a king that we booked. As we moved rooms on our second night, the new room was bigger and back to a king bed.
- Titanium gift the offer was 500 points, breakfast or wine.
- The location is great. Woolies supermarket just down the road, Mitchell St parallel to Smith St with many places to eat/drink, the city mall is easy walking distance and the entertainment centre nearby.
- USB charging on both sides of the bed and on the wall under the TV.
- Shower is big, water pressure was great and the water gets very hot.
- Alot of nice soft fluffy towels.
- We received 2 bottles of water most days not sure if this was status related because when we changed rooms there was no water in the new room.
- In room safe is a good size for your laptop etc. However it's not bolted down!
- Good block out curtains in our room.
- The mattress is firm but was ok for us and yay it didn't sag.
- Plenty of storage space in the room.
CONS;
- Alot of the room doors are very close to one another which creates alot of noise to the nearby rooms especially when other guests make no attempt to close the doors as quietly as possible, which can be achieved with consideration.
- From the 2nd Saturday of our stay till the Wednesday before we checked out we had No water delivered to our room! We went to or phoned reception each time & were told 'we'll send it up' this NEVER eventuated so back to reception we go. Why is this so hard?
- We had to request a room swap as our room was between 2 other rooms in a tight knit corner, one of those room doors was directly in line with our bed and guess what.. door slammers at 1.30am onwards!! In the morning Magda at reception was absolutely brilliant in helping us move to a quieter room location. Thanks Magda for your patience and diligence in finding us a much better room where we could more enjoy our remaining 13 nights.
- The walls etc have zero sound proofing, we could easily hear our neighbours showering and flushing the toilet.
- There needs to be a draft strip added to the bottom of the bedroom doors to help with sound and light, there's currently huge gaps there.
- Something needs to be done with the doors i.e. add soft close to them ALL. You can also hear people's phone calls in their rooms when on speaker!
- It seemed like the thermostat in the aircon was on the way out it would vibrate [sounded like a mobile phone sitting on a table vibrating - but it wasn't] on its own and when we changed the temp. The temperature wouldn't stay consistent.
- Be careful of the lifts especially the one on the left, the sensors in the doors are not working properly and the doors bite! Also when you get in the door closes, then reopens. Funky things happen with it & it changes direction i.e. we had our floor number illuminated, someone else got in on another floor and instead of going up it went down. This occurred twice during our stay.
- Housekeeping, unsure how often they vacuum alot of bits on the floor and also dusting the tops of things filthy for our whole 14 night stay. I cleaned!
- On the bed theres a squeaky plasticised mattress protector it's horrid and all the sheets move with you when you turn over and it doesn't breath at all, makes the bed so so hot!
- The day before we checked out there's a note slipped under our door saying contractors will be doing bathroom maintenance between a certain time period. No dates. On the same day the contractors knocked on the door when the DND sign was hanging on the door. Then on the next day our checkout day the contractors knocked again when DND was up this time he said to me we see the sign but we need to do X. We told him we are preparing to check out & they'll need to wait. Management please inform your contractors about disturbing your guests!
- Never seen any management around the hotel or engaging with guests like other marriott properties.
We vote for Diana and Magda to run the show and make the changes to make this a great hotel!
In the area; Coffee Man around the corner of the hotel does fabulous coffee and toasties. A short walk to Kopi stop for tasty Laksa.
Pubs around the corner on Mitchell St. we enjoyed the food at Shenanigans and Sweethearts.
There are still alot of reviews on here for the Smith hotel which this was before Marriott took over the property. Why are they even here i thought TA had a process when hotels changed hands they pull old reviews down. It's happened to some of my reviews in the past.
