AVOID

Woman at reception was absolutely rude. We had a time for check in and the place was not open. Had to call a few times before she answered and opened up to let us in. Awful customer service skills and the place did not smell clean. We did not stay here because of her. There are other backpackers in Adelaide who are friendly and have great facilities. Please explore all other options before staying here.

Run by the rudest man you'll ever meet

The owner is the rudest man I've ever met in my life. He is presumptuous, hostile, unwelcoming, and constantly has a chip on his shoulder about even the most minor thing. For someone who has chosen to work in the hospitality industry, he couldn't be any less hospitable.
I hadn't heard anything about his hostel at all before I stayed in the area, and since it was cheap I would have recommended it to a visiting friend or even stayed there myself the next time I go to Adelaide. I had a friend staying in his hostel, who was cooking a lunch with ingredients I'd contributed to. We asked specific permission from the owner if I could come in just to share lunch. I sat in the reception area waiting for the food to be ready, and the owner (who knows exactly why I'm there as I was present 30 minutes earlier when permission was asked) comes over accusative of me using the facilities (Yeah... sitting in the waiting area, waiting for something you'd given permission for), starts asking about where I'm staying and raises his voice at me to shout that I "can't be coming in there making it my home"... when I had done literally no more than I'd been given permission to do, which was be present for lunch that hadn't even been served yet. I don't like imposing so I didn't even set foot past the reception towards the kitchen where the food was being prepared. One can only assume this man has some form of severe bipolar disorder.
Avoid at all costs, this place will ruin your holiday, and a man this rude doesn't deserve anybody's business.

cheap but doesn't even worth what you paid for

don't even know where to start.
This is a place for people who does not care about anything and just want cheap rate.
It's cheap but the environment is not good at all. the only thing that looks good is the reception and front door.
Old small shabby house, very few shower facility and toilet and dirty. Kitchen not clean and the room as well. back yard looks like those ruins remains. what a mess! They do not welcome local.. stayed one night and that's enough for me.
RUDE OWNERS , probably prefer foreigners as they knows less
will not stay again

Horrible

It was just dirty and messy. A large number of flies were flying in the air probably it was because people didn't wash their dishes after using it and left on the table. Inside of the room was also horrible. Guests spread out their stuffs on the floor and there was no space to put my luggage.
This backpacker is definitely for long-term visitors not short-term. If you are a person who likes being messy and dirty and can live in a place which is like jungle, I can recommend.

As Advertised

You get what you pay for with this place, and man is it cheap! You won't find a more budget hostel in Adelaide. The owner is abrupt and abrasive, but honest and answers all questions readily enough. Good place if you're looking to rough it or really need to save money. Would not stay again.
